Maureen FitzSimons (17 August 1920 until 24 October 2015) was an Irish actress, singer and performer who gained fame in Hollywood from 1940s until the 1960s. Her natural redhead nature was a draw for strong but smart characters in Westerns and adventure movies. Charles Laughton, an actor who first noticed her talent as a star, took her to Hollywood. Numerous times she also collaborated with John Ford, longtime friend John Wayne and John Ford. O'Hara was born in Dublin, Ireland by a Catholic family. She was determined to be an actress at a young age. O'Hara began her training in the Abbey Theatre and Rathmines Theatre Company when she was just 10 years old. After getting through a screen test she was turned down. But Charles Laughton recognized her potential and offered to have her star in Alfred Hitchcock’s Jamaica Inn in 1939. She moved to Hollywood in the same year to be a part of his in the production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and was given an acting contract by RKO Pictures. From there, she went on to have a long and highly successful career, which earned her the moniker "the Queen of Technicolor".
